Neither Snow, nor More Snow, nor even More Snow…

Can stop King Kong from helping Aldridge Electric drive 9.5ft and 10.5ft diameter casing to grade for power line project in snowy and bitterly cold northern New England.

The nature of power line construction is that time is of the essence and the jobsite does not shut down for inconveniences like a foot of snow. Knowing that, Aldridge chooses APE and the reliability they have come to know and trust, as well as the knowledge that if something does go wrong, a foot of snow will not keep APE personnel from being on site and doing whatever it takes…

An APE is Spotted in Newfoundland

Trident Construction recently purchased a new APE D19-42 and leads to add to their piledriving capability.

I recently visited their jobsite to set it up and watched the hammer run flawlessly. Trident is driving pipe piles as part of a Canadian Coast Guard pier reconstruction. APE has been enjoying an increased presence in Canada and look forward to continued expansion of business with our Canadian friends.

Walsh/PCL and APE in Connecticut

The Walsh/PCL Joint Venture in Connecticut on the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge replacement project came to APE with a dilemma. They needed to install a work trestle using 24″ open ended pipe piles, some of which have to be driven underneath the existing bridge structure.

APE came up with a system that includes an APE Tandem 150 vibro that allows the piles to extend thru a centerhole clamp and above the height of the hammer to maximize headroom. Then the piles are impacted in to capacity with an APE D62-42 diesel hammer in a specially built short section of leads.

APE in Pittsburgh PA with Mascaro Construction

Mascaro Construction, Pittsburgh’s premier general contractor, was awarded the David Lawrence Convention Center Riverside Park job, which included driving steel sheeting, beams and pipe piles. In the past, Mascaro would sub out any pile driving work. But project manager Brad McKibben and Superintendent Bob Yeckel thought this would be the perfect job to self-perform. APE Northeast got the call, providing an APE 200 vibro equipped with a caisson beam, caisson clamps, and a caisson to clamp adapter. This adapter facilitates a fast swap out from a sheet clamp to a dual caisson clamp setup. LU 2235 Pile Driving foreman Bob Kerns was impressed with this set-up.

APE NE would like to thank all at Mascaro Construction for trusting APE to provide their pile equipment needs on their first self-performing pile job. Stay tuned-APE will be providing Mascaro Construction with diesel hammers on another job within a few short days. We look forward to a long, mutually rewarding relationship.

“Which exit?” South State Inc. and APE on New Jersey Turnpike Exit 7

“You’re from Jersey? Which exit?” goes the joke, referring to which exit a native New Jerseyan takes off the NJ Turnpike to get home. Superintendent Mark Timari of South State Inc. of Bridgeton NJ needed to drive 18″ pipe piles home for a bridge over the New Jersey Turnpike for the new Exit 7 Interchange. He did the right thing and called APE Northeast for an APE D30, and APE rose to the occasion, delivering a hammer ready to go to work. The D30 performed flawlessly throughout the project.

APE Northeast would like to thank South State for the business.

Please call APE NE for all your pile equipment needs at 888-217-7524.

APE 200T Vibro/APE 700 Power Unit with Kokosing Construction

Kokosing Construction, Ohio’s most prominent heavy highway contractor, was in the market for a powerful vibro for several upcoming sheetpile jobs. After carefully researching the choices, Kokosing’s equipment manager Bob Greene called APE Northeast. It was decided the APE 200T Vibro with the APE 700 HP Power Unit best suited their needs. The 200T boasts 5200 inch pounds of eccentric moment, 800 inch pounds more than the APE 200 vibro. The extra energy is due to tungsten inserts in the eccentric weights, a patented invention. In fact, the legitimacy of the patent was recently upheld in court when it was discovered 2 of APE’s competitors were secretly adding tungsten into their eccentrics as well.

The crane operator commented how “smooth” the vibro started and stopped. APE’s patented 2 stage suppressor greatly reduces the violent shaking up the boom typically associated with the operation of other manufacturers’ hammers. The 200T with the 700 HP Power Unit provides abundant hydraulic horsepower, making it a very powerful setup indeed.

Thanks to Kokosing Construction and Bob Greene for choosing APE. Call Paul Kuzik at APE/J&M Northeast @ 201-400-8356 for more info, and for all of your pile driving equipment needs.
